Fundraising Ideas
Put the fun in fundraising! Be creative, use your imagination and do it up.
And don’t forget your family. Mothers and daughters working together are a force of awesomeness.
To get started, check out ideas from other girls:
Bad Hair Day. People pay a fee to go to school or work sporting a crazy hairstyle. The craziest wins a small prize and the rest of the funds are donated.
Bad Outfit Day. Similar to Bay Hair Day, but people compete to wear the worst outfit – or pay a bigger fee not to!
International Day. Everyone pays a fee to enter, and dresses up in the traditional dress of a girl from another country. Some girls bring in the local food too. Direct the funds you collect to girls in the chosen country.
Bring a Book Day. Get all your friends to bring in used books and set up a book stand to sell them.
Guess the number of candies. Fill a jar with candies and charge $2 to take part. The winner gets to take the jar home.
So You Think You Can Dance/American Idol Party Day. Dress to support your favourite female contestants, run a sweepstake, have your own contest, etc.
Gender equity bake sale. Get family and friends baking and sell the results to hungry friends. Charge women 75 cents and men $1 to illustrate the difference in wages between men and women at work.
Moms and daughters Because I am a Girl Walk. Organize a mini-marathon in your community. Get family and friends to sponsor you and your Mom, and your friends and their moms, as you walk to raise funds for girls and women around the world.
Clothing swap. Another great idea for you and your Mom is to invite your friends and your Mom’s friends to bring unwanted gently used clothing to your home for an afternoon of swapping clothes. Everyone pays a small fee for the fun of choosing new threads to take home.
Car Wash. Wash teachers’ cars in a lunch break, or set up in a community car park. Split into two teams and see who can wash the most. Charge a fee for each car – maybe $10.
Lunch party. Everyone brings in something homemade for a big buffet lunch or picnic. The money that would have been spent dining out gets donated to help girls around the world.
Raffles. Organize raffles for your family and friends to win a small prize. Donate the rest of the entry fees to Because I am a Girl.
Treasure Hunt. Hide clues around your house or school leading to a secret prize. Charge an entry fee to take part.
Create a fundraising webpage. Start a Facebook group to raise funds for Because I am a Girl and direct everyone to your web page.
Add yourself to the Because I am a Girl video. Send it to family and friends along with a link to your fundraising web page. Ask everyone to forward it to all their friends too.
